On 23 June the UK electorate will decide whether to remain a part of the European Union or vote to leave. Advocates of ‘Brexit’ claim that it is time for the EU to regain its sovereignty and break free from the deadening hand of a moribund union. Advocates of ‘Bremain’ argue that being part of the most developed supranational polity in the world enhances the UK’s sovereignty, wealth and security. Three leading experts on European integration will discuss the domestic and international politics that have brought the UK to this decisive decision and analyse its implications for Australia and the world.
The panel discussion is part of the ANU Centre for European Studies’ three year partnership with ABC Radio National. Big Ideas from Europe focusses on the major social, cultural, scientific and political issues from contemporary Europe. The series features panel discussions, interviews and public lectures by eminent scholars and public figures. It is broadcast on Radio National and also available as a podcast, with additional reading material available on the Big Ideas website.
